GMC-S

The GMC-S is a cutting scissor from the Global Series range, forged by the Togiya manufacture. Convex blade, 3D handle, notched screw.

This length is made for precision work: scissor-over-finger cutting, outlines, detail around the face, point cutting. It is the most common format in salons, and usually the right choice for a first Japanese pair.

The blade

The Japanese convex blade — hamaguri-ba, the “clam-shell blade” — combines a rounded back with an extremely fine edge. It slices the hair cleanly instead of pushing it: the cut glides, split ends are rare, and the gesture takes less force.

In the hand

The 3D handle adds a tilt in all three planes: the ring comes to the thumb rather than the reverse. The grip stays relaxed, even through long cuts. The click screw adjusts without tools and returns to each detent identically: handy for fine-tuning tension through the day depending on hair type.

Forged in Inuyama

The Global Series range comes out of the Togiya manufacture, which controls its whole chain: steel selection, forging, hardening, grinding, then hand sharpening and assembly. That end-to-end control explains the value of Togiya's “Made in Japan”.

Care and lifespan

Wipe the blades at the end of each day, add a drop of oil on the screw and edge, store the pair in its case. Once a year, hand it to a sharpener trained on Japanese blades — never to a standard grinding wheel, which would destroy the convex geometry in a single pass.
