The essentials

The DCO is a cutting scissor from the Designer Series range, forged by the Togiya manufacture. Convex blade, camel & offset handle, dial adjustment screw.

This length is made for precision work: scissor-over-finger cutting, outlines, detail around the face, point cutting. It is the most common format in salons, and usually the right choice for a first Japanese pair.

The blade

The Japanese convex blade — hamaguri-ba, the “clam-shell blade” — combines a rounded back with an extremely fine edge. It slices the hair cleanly instead of pushing it: the cut glides, split ends are rare, and the gesture takes less force.

In the hand

The offset handle increases the thumb displacement: the hand works more open and the forearm relaxes. This is the geometry to recommend to anyone cutting for hours or feeling wrist tension. The knurled screw adjusts by hand, mid-cut if needed: half a turn is enough to firm up or loosen the closing.

Available for right-handed users and as a true left-handed version — blades and screw mirrored from the forge, not a reversed assembly. Available sizes: 5″, 0″, 5″, 5″, 6″, 0″.

Forged in Inuyama

The Designer Series range comes out of the Togiya manufacture, which controls its whole chain: steel selection, forging, hardening, grinding, then hand sharpening and assembly. That end-to-end control explains the value of Togiya's “Made in Japan”.

Care and lifespan

Wipe the blades at the end of each day, add a drop of oil on the screw and edge, store the pair in its case. Once a year, hand it to a sharpener trained on Japanese blades — never to a standard grinding wheel, which would destroy the convex geometry in a single pass.
