CST-38B

The CST-38B is a thinning shear from the range, forged by the Togiya manufacture. 38-tooth thinning scissors, offset handle, slotted screw.

A thinning shear does not replace a cutting pair — it completes it. Work on dry hair, at the end of the cut, to remove weight without touching the line. Used on wet hair, the dry result will always be thinner than intended.

With its 38 fine teeth, this shear removes a small proportion of hair at each closing: it blends demarcations and adds texture without thinning out. The finishing tool par excellence, including on fine hair where mistakes are unforgiving.

The blade

The blade is ground and then hand-sharpened in Inuyama, following Togiya's own geometry: a consistent edge along the full length, checked piece by piece before dispatch.

In the hand

The offset handle increases the thumb displacement: the hand works more open and the forearm relaxes. This is the geometry to recommend to anyone cutting for hours or feeling wrist tension. The slotted screw is adjusted with the supplied key: a firm setting that stays put throughout service.

Forged in Inuyama

The range comes out of the Togiya manufacture, which controls its whole chain: steel selection, forging, hardening, grinding, then hand sharpening and assembly. That end-to-end control explains the value of Togiya's “Made in Japan”.

Care and lifespan

Wipe the blades at the end of each day, add a drop of oil on the screw and edge, store the pair in its case. Once a year, hand it to a sharpener trained on Japanese blades — never to a standard grinding wheel, which would destroy the convex geometry in a single pass.
